This is one of the easiest things to do if you have the Photoshop software installed on your computer, sadly many people don’t know how. You have an image with a white or black background and you wish to remove the background so that you can use said image as a backgroundless PNG. What is the fastest way to get this done? We will get into it right away.
The fastest way to do this is with Photoshop and it is not difficult at all. Just follow the steps below:
Step 1: Open the image file in Photoshop
For the purpose of this tutorial we will be using our own logo. First you need to open the image that has the white or black background in photoshop as shown in the image below…
Step 2: Open The Image In Layer Style
You will want to double click the right side of the image selection on the layer panel to reveal the layer style, when this opens you will see the “Blend Options: Custom” menu which has 3 subsections. The General Blending, Advance Blending and the Blend If subsections.
Our focus is the “Blend If”. In a case where your image has a black background go over to the “This layer” slider and move the black pointer from left to right until the black background is removed from your image. Do not over do it however as you will notice the effect will begin to cut into parts of your logo/image.
In a case where there image has a white background we will be going from right to left. move the grey pointer to the left until the white background is completely absent.
Step 3: Save your image
The image should now look something like what we have below, and then you can save it in PNG and enjoy your new “backgroundless” image. Note that jpeg format does not currently support backgroundless images which is probably why you needed this tutorial in the first place. Always save your backgroundless photos in PNG format.
This is how to Remove White/Black Background From An Image very quickly. It should take you less than 5 minutes to complete on a average.
